Portfolio + Back from Metaltown

Journal Entry: Thu Jul 2, 2009, 4:52 AM

Nice, nice! Just learned about the nice beta testing of the new DA portfolios and I really have to say this looks great! Can´t wait to play around with that stuff tonight, when I have a bit more time.
This feature came at the right time, since I was about to update/change my portfolio anyways. Judging from what I´ve seen/read it´s gonna be quick and easy to customize. We´ll see. :)
Gonna present my result once I´m through with it. Now I only have to come up with a decent domain name for that, since we can pick one .... Phew... Full name? Nick name? Something completely different? Any opinions on that, folks?

Apart from that I fi-na-lly have to come up with my decision for the festivals this weekend....should I go to With Full Force tomorrow despite having tons and tons of stuff to do or not? And if not driving to this festival about 500km away, should I go to a smaller one about 130 km away instead? Or no at all? Sounds like insanity vs sanity. (not to mention that it sucks even more having two photopass for exactly the same weekend, whereas there´s nothing at all at other weekends - yes luxurious problem...) I don´t like this kind of decisions....

And thanks a lot for the favs/comments! More stuff from Metaltown coming soon! Children of Bodom pics are already up on music-photocalypse. :)

This or that way, hope you´re all going to have a nice weekend without melting (like we do here in Germany right now).

Over and out for now! ;)

Back from Sweden and Metaltown Festival!
Those were some really cool and (well halfways)relaxed 4 days that were over way too fast.
Lots of nice people, some of them, who I hadn´t seen for quite a while, great bands and damn nice weather. Constantly between 25-30 degrees, an almost cloudless sky. Sometimes even too warm, but at least I survived without a sunburn. ;)

Managed to photograph nearly all the bands - except for Slipknot, who went totally nuts with photo permission and only 10 out of roughly 40 photographers managed to get into the pit. However I managed to get some nice place near the soundtower and shot a couple of pics from there, hope they turned out acceptable. Marilyn Manson on the other had no restrictions at all, apart from 2 songs instead of 3. However this gig was not as interesting to photograph as Slipknot would´ve been. Yes... so far, so good. Going through the pics now and uploading them soon. The bands I liked the most were The Haunted, Opeth, Meshuggah (yes, fi-na-lly I saw them live!), Volbeat, Cult of Luna. My Dying Bride unfortunately had to play in bright daylight...too bad, this would´ve been so great on either the tentstage or lateron, when it was a bit darker... What I absolutely didn´t like where Girugämesh and Dir En Grey, even though it was nice to photograph them. But it´s simply not my kind of music. The very last band of the festival was a gig of Burst, who played at the aftershow party in a bar called Parken, really cool gig!

So stay tuned for pics coming up here and on music-photocalypse. Pics from Summerblast are also waiting, just need a bit to go through all of them.

Next weekend it´s either time for With Full Force Festival (long way to drive) or Vainstream Beastfest (shorter way, less interesting bands). Would love to go to WFF, but I´m still not sure, whether I´ll be able to make it... We´ll see...

Hi friend!
I went to ruis and it was allowed to bring the camera except making photos of slipknot and bodom but...I have some of them anyway because they told me about half bodom gig.
It was GREAAAT! I dunno if u are a fan of Slipknot...I wasn't actually but yesterday I was in flames for them, they performed greatly! Now they definitely earned a new fan!
Yes a really great day!
I will put some photos in DA as soon as i check them.
Was really nice to talk with u...maybe we'll meet some day in concert!

Hei!

That´s great to hear! :)
Wow, so Bodom had restrictions on cameras? Wouldn´t have expected something like this. So did you have a smaller camera with you or a big one? :)
No, I´m not really a fan of Slipknot, but enjoyed their gig at Metaltown. They were putting up a great show, which made it interesting even for those not being fans, hehe.
Since I´m travelling every now and then, sure, you never know! ;)

I had with me: yes, the big camera because in the f.a.q. (as u advised i checked) there was no problem for individual use of the photographs. So didn't have not even the smallest trouble to enter with the reflex camera and not even the smallest problem with any other band but Bodom...but at some point...there came this guy of the security and said that it was not possible to take either Bodom or Slipknot...BULSHITS! Just to bore me...so after what he said (at about half Bodom gig) i took just couple of Bodom and some very bad ones from far away of the Slipknot's stage...
I could not take any good one from Disturbed because they where playing in the meanwhile of Neurosis and arriving "late" to that stage I could forget about a nice place where to take decent photographs...but that's ok...I'm enough satisfied for what I could do with my camera...I take the experience as a way to become a better photographer and who knows that one day my passion will be paid!

Are u ofen in Finland? At the moment I live in Hki...

Telezoom + Photopit. Well, sometimes only photopit and no big lens depending on the size of the stage. ;)

How do you get to the photopit?

Is it all access generally?

Nope, you need an accreditation from a magazine.

Well that sucks majorly.

Hm, not really, no. The photopits would be crowded as hell, if everybody could just jump in there and then nobody would be able to take decent pictures. Apart from the fact, that they´re crowded anyways at some gigs.
After all, there´s lots of small/middle size gigs without pits, where there´s normally no or only small restrictions for cams. :)
